NATIONAL ADVICE AND SUPPORT

The following organisations can provide independent advice and support with regards to local and national Compacts.

Compact Voice

Compact Voice represents the voluntary and community sector in England on taking the national Compact forward.  They also support Local Compact Voice in helping to make more effective use of Local Compacts with local public bodies.

Together they work directly with Government and the Commission for the Compact to improve the relationship  between the sector, government and local public bodies for mutual and community gain.

Compact Advocacy Programme

Compact Advocacy helps support better outcomes for voluntary and community groups in their dealings with public bodies.

If you think a decision is not compliant with Compact or public law principles, they can:

    * Identify Compact non-compliance or public law wrongs (and pass onto the Public Law project - free legal advice and representation in appropriate cases)
    * Help you with strategy and identifying key decision makers
    * Represent you (letters, emails, phone calls, meetings and press work)
    * Seek policy and practice change
    * Identify and share best and worst practice

They get enquiries on a range of issues such as:

    * Funding withdrawn with little notice and without consultion
    * Consultation on a new policy or procedure runs for less than 12 weeks
    * Monitoring requirements which are disproportionately larger than your size, or the perceived risk
